Anticipating Two MAJOR Announcements from Disney on August 7th

August promises to be a significant month for Disney announcements! The highly anticipated D23 2024 Ultimate Disney Fan Event kicks off on August 9th, but a few days before, on August 7th, Disney will conduct its Quarter 3 earnings call.

These earnings calls provide shareholders with a look into the company’s performance. CEO Bob Iger and other executives will discuss the financial health of the company, and often, they also share major news about upcoming projects. While the bulk of announcements might be reserved for the D23 event, we expect to hear about two critical updates on August 7th!

VENU

Disney has been discussing ESPN and its future plans for the platform for some time. As ESPN’s owner, Disney seems to have significant plans for it.

ESPN and streaming are frequent topics during the earnings calls, with Disney continuously exploring the future of sports streaming. In May, we learned about a new sports-focused streaming app, Venu, developed in partnership with ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. This app is designed to streamline sports viewing.

Currently, Venu.com is live, but the platform is not yet operational as it awaits regulatory approval and final agreements between the companies. We anticipate hearing an update on this app’s progress and possibly even a launch date, so we can soon enjoy watching our favorite sports all in one place.

ESPN Tile on Disney+

Given the popularity of ESPN and streaming topics for Iger, there’s another announcement we expect. During the Quarter 2 earnings call in May, Disney revealed a new ESPN tile for Disney+. This will allow U.S. Disney+ subscribers to access select live sports games directly from the Disney+ app.

This feature will function similarly to the Hulu tile on Disney+ and will be a significant addition for subscribers. Although we know this tile will be available by the end of 2024, we are hoping for an official launch date announcement during the upcoming earnings call.
